FAQ

Q.Is it possible to collect alarm information from Canaria+?

A.As Canaria+ is not connected, real-time data collection is not possible. However, a paid post-use analysis can be requested by contacting us at contact@biodatabank.co.jp. We will provide a detailed activity report along with suggestions to improve your company’s heat risk management.

Q.Can Canaria+ be affected by the wearer’s health condition?

A. The alarm may be affected if the wearer is taking medication that alters blood pressure or if the wearer suffers from decreased blood flow in peripheral areas of the body.

Q.How long can I keep Canaria+ without turning it on?

A.The built-in battery in Canaria+ has a very low self-discharge rate — typically only a few percent per year. This means the device can be stored for extended periods without significant battery loss. Biodata Bank guarantees battery performance for the full calendar year of purchase. For products delivered near the end of the year, we offer a minimum six-month battery guarantee from the date of delivery.

Q.Is Canaria+ recyclable?

A.Yes, both the Canaria+ device and its packaging are recyclable. We have established partnerships with government-approved recycling companies that operate collection points across the country. These programs ensure that used devices are properly handled in accordance with environmental regulations. If your organization would like to participate in our recycling program or needs assistance locating a nearby collection point, please feel free to contact us. Sustainability is a core value of Biodata Bank, and we are committed to reducing waste through responsible product lifecycle management.

Q.Is Canaria+ ATEX certified/resistant to explosions?

A.Canaria+ is not certified for use in ATEX or explosive environments. However, we understand the importance of this requirement in industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, and mining. Due to increasing demand, we are actively exploring the development of an ATEX-compliant version. If your organization requires a solution for such environments, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you — your input will help us prioritize and accelerate this development.

Q.Does the GDPR apply when using Canaria+ (General Data Protection Regulation)?

A.No, the use of Canaria+ is not subject to the GDPR. The device operates completely offline and does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Biodata Bank, the manufacturer of Canaria+, does not process any personal information in relation to the device, either directly or through third-party systems. This ensures full compliance with privacy regulations, and makes Canaria+ especially suitable for data-sensitive environments.

Q.Is there a connected version of Canaria+ ?

A.Canaria+ is a standalone device and does not connect to a network. The heatstroke alert is shown directly to the wearer through sound, light, and vibration. We’ve received strong interest from clients who wish to remotely monitor employee health in real-time. In response, we are actively considering the development of a connected version. If your organization is interested in this feature, please let us know — your feedback will help us prioritize development and better meet your needs.

Q.Is Canaria+ rechargeable?

A.No, Canaria+ is designed as a non-rechargeable device with a built-in battery that lasts for approximately 5 months. This approach ensures maximum reliability in harsh outdoor environments, such as construction or industrial sites, where the device may be exposed to strong impacts, dust, or moisture. Rechargeable systems can compromise durability and performance over time, so we chose a sealed, single-use design to prioritize safety and consistent functionality throughout its lifecycle. Furthermore, by eliminating the need to recharge, we avoid potential human error—such as forgetting or improperly charging the device—so employees remain protected without any reliance on user maintenance.

Q.What is the heat resistance temperature of the product?

A.This product has a heat resistance temperature range of -10℃ to 80℃. It can be used in environments near heat sources, such as foundry processes, without any issues.

Q.Does the device work correctly when worn over clothing?

A.The device does not detect correctly when worn over clothing. Please ensure that the silver sensor on the back of the device is in direct contact with your skin.

Q.Can the device be worn on places other than the wrist?

A.Please wear the device on your wrist. It can be worn on either hand. Ensure that the silver sensor on the back of the device is in direct contact with your skin and that the device is worn on the back of your hand.

Q.Can one device be shared among multiple people?

A.From a hygiene and functionality perspective, we recommend that each person use their own device.

Q.Is it explosion-proof?

A.This product is not explosion-proof and does not meet ATEX or IECEx explosion-proof standards.

Q.Does the device work correctly when wearing cotton gloves, leather gloves, or antistatic gloves?

A.The device works correctly even when wearing cotton, leather, or antistatic gloves. However, if it is possible to wear the product exposed, we recommend wearing it in an exposed state. Construction companies, electric power companies, and steel companies have adopted the product, and it can be used while wearing these types of gloves.

Q.How can I confirm that the device is operating normally?

A.When operating normally, the green LED blinks every 15 seconds.

Q.What should I do after the alarm sounds?

A.When the alarm sounds, please move to a cool place and hydrate yourself. Depending on the rest conditions, it takes about 10 minutes to exit the danger zone. When the danger zone is exited, the LED will change from red to green, which can be used as a guideline for resuming work or exercise. If you still feel unwell even after the LED turns green, please consult with those around you or seek medical attention.

Q.What level of dust and water resistance does the product have?

A.This product is IP67 certified for dust and water resistance. It has been confirmed by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA) that the product can be submerged in water at a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes without any issues. If the product gets dirty during use, please wash it by hand with tap water.

Q.Does the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) apply when using Canaria ?

A.Canaria use is not subject to the GDPR. Biodata bank, the manufacturer of Canaria, does not carry out any processing of personal data by any means (collection, recording, organization, conservation, adaptation, modification, extraction, consultation, use, communication by transmission, diffusion or any other form of provision, reconciliation).

Q.At what temperature is the alert triggered?

A.Documents published by the WHO on deep body temperature agree that a health risk arises when the core temperature of the body exceeds 38°C.

Q.Why did the alert go off when I had no symptoms?

A. The alert is triggered to prevent heat stroke so you may not yet feel any symptoms at the time of the alert. In such situations, even if you are not aware of it, your core body temperature may continue to rise. It’s therefore important to hydrate, take a break, and check your physical condition before continuing your activity.

Q.How long can I keep the device without turning it on?

A.The waterproof packaging keeps the product protected.
Concerning the battery, information provided by the manufacturer indicates a low loss of power of a few percent per year.
Biodata bank guarantees the battery life for six months from the date of delivery.

Q.Is the product recycled?

A.Both the product and the packaging can be recycled. We have contracts and memberships with government approved companies that have collection points throughout the country.

Q.Can the product be used in a hot environment?

A.CANARIA+ can be used in environments where the temperature is above 40°C. It can be used up to an ambient temperature near the wrist of 80°C. The outside temperature does not affect the operation of the device. In fact, clients in a variety of extreme environments trust Canaria+ every day such as in foundries and metal-forging plants handling molten materials in excess of 8 000 °C— with no report interruptions in performance.

Q.How about a rechargeable battery system?

A.A rechargeable battery system is not suitable for the use of this product. The shell may be particularly stressed during use (see photo) and therefore the integrity cannot be guaranteed beyond the current period of use.
